Preservation and meeting Algalon

I made up a macro of my own that I'd like to call [Preservation] (a name that I think would work nicely as a new spell/ability for druids in Cataclysm by the way).

The idea behind the macro is simply that Barkskin doesn't affect the Global Cooldown and it costs no mana so you might as well use it all the time when it's available in boss fights where there is a lot of damage going around. I thought it would be nice to trigger it without thinking about it. I also don't want to see or hear any warnings that it's not available yet so I'm disabling that. What better way than embedding it in my Rejuvenation spell?

[Preservation] (mouseover version)
/script UIErrorsFrame:UnregisterEvent("UI_ERROR_MESSAGE");
/console Sound_EnableSFX 0
/use Barkskin
/use [target=mouseover,help][target=target,help][]Rejuvenation;
/script UIErrorsFrame:RegisterEvent("UI_ERROR_MESSAGE");
/console Sound_EnableSFX 0

I also have a tweaked version for me since I don't use mouseover and I want to trigger Lifeblood, the herbalist healing thingy that I always forget that I have. Might as well get some extra heals! :)

[Preservation++]
/script UIErrorsFrame:UnregisterEvent("UI_ERROR_MESSAGE");
/console Sound_EnableSFX 0
/use Barkskin
/use Lifeblood
/use [target=target,help][]Rejuvenation;
/script UIErrorsFrame:RegisterEvent("UI_ERROR_MESSAGE");
/console Sound_EnableSFX 1

Neat or what?

Tonight I also met Algalon for the first time!

It's a nice intro and a great fight. It took a few tries but I think I've got most part of it worked out now. We got him to 45-50% or so and it was the first evening on him in the 25 man version. I was told they've almost killed him on the 10 man version.

[Healer 1] Spam the tank for those that have not been here before, he hits like Brutallus
[Healer 2] ye, and some more even
[Healer 3] and then some more too

Addon: IHML

I've posted about this addon before but if you still haven't got it, go get it!

You create a macro in the IHML panel and give it the name of the subzone where you are, for example: "Winter's Breath Lake" for the quest The Edge of Winter. Then you just check the item id of the quest item and you can use #showtooltip like below to see that it works. As soon as you zone in the icon from IHML swaps in your macro. That way you can manage most of your daily quests with a single button or keybind.

#showtooltip item:45005
/targetexact Maiden of Winter's Breath Lake
/use [exists]item:45005

Wild Growth macro trouble

There's a problem with Wild Growth right now as described here:
Wild Growth - Pains and workaround

I noticed it last night as my previous macro which casts Wild Growth on myself didn't work if I had a target selected that was out of range.

Here's my modified version that works for me:
#showtooltip
/use [mod:Alt, target=player]Innervate; [mod:Shift, target=player]Lifebloom;[nomod, target=player]Rejuvenation;
/stopmacro [nomod:Ctrl]
/cleartarget [exists]
/use [mod:Ctrl, target=player]Wild Growth
/targetlasttarget

Druid Macro Improvements

This is me sharing my macros and asking for advice if you can think of any ways to improve the following druid specific macros which I use. Everything from making the expressions shorter by using abbreviations or making them smarter. I like having #showtooltip along if there's room for it.

A list of the things I've thought of so far:

  • Replace /cast with /use because it's shorter

  • Remove whitespaces

  • Use [form instead of [stance because it's shorter

  • Use [mod: instead of [modifier:

I'm well aware that these macros are not for everyone and I've had very little feedback on them but I find that they go well together and work very good with how I play my druid.

Third mouse key above scroll wheel: This one does a few things ;)
/use [form:1]Challenging Roar;[stealth]Pounce;
[form:3]Cower;[mod:Shift,target=focus]Regrowth;
[mod:Alt,target=focus]Rejuvenation;
[mod:Ctrl,target=focus]Wild Growth;
[nocombat,flyable]Swift Flight Form;
[target=focus]Lifebloom;
/cancelform [form:6]

Second mouse thumb key: Attention grabber, cat finisher, Swiftmend, Prowl
#showtooltip
/use [form:1]Growl;[form:3,combat]Ferocious Bite;
[form:5/noform]Swiftmend;[form:3,nostealth]Prowl;
#showtooltip Prowl
/cancelaura [stealth]Prowl;

Same as above, Moonkin version (I swap these two depending on spec). Second mouse thumb key: Attention grabber, cat finisher, Force of Nature, Prowl
#showtooltip
/use [form:1]Growl;[form:3,combat]Ferocious Bite;
[form:5/noform]Force of Nature;[form:3,nostealth]Prowl;
#showtooltip Prowl
/cancelaura [stealth]Prowl;

My § key: Self heal etc
#showtooltip
/use [form:3]Maim;[form:1]Lacerate;
mod:Shift,target=player]Lifebloom;
[mod:Alt,target=player]Innervate;
[mod:Ctrl,target=player]Wild Growth;[target=player]Rejuvenation;

Keyboard button: 2. Typhoon utility
#showtooltip
/use [mod:Alt]Soothe Animal;[mod:Shift]Hibernate; Typhoon

First mouse thumb key, moonkin version
#showtooltip
/use [form:1]Frenzied Regeneration;[stealth]Ravage;
[form:3]Shred;Nature's Grasp;

First mouse thumb key, resto version
#showtooltip
/use [form:1]Frenzied Regeneration;[stealth]Ravage;
[form:3]Shred;Nature's Swiftness;

Versatile macros for versatile classes

Any class that has different stances or forms will benefit from buttons that change depending on stance or form. The intention of this post is to inspire to writing your own context sensitive macros.

This is not a reference post, for that I recommend reading up on these posts:
WoWWiki's HOWTO:Make a Macro
Neuro's Macro Guide for WoW 2.0

I thought I'd share my own druid macros that I use in hope that they might inspire you to your own setup.

I'm using a Logitech MX500 which has 3 extra buttons; 2 thumb buttons and 1 button above the scroll wheel besides the left and right one so naturally I try to use them all.

Scroll wheel button

/cast [stance:1]Challenging Roar;[stealth]Pounce; [stance:3]Cower; [mod:Shift, target=focus]Regrowth; [mod:Alt, target=focus]Rejuvenation; [stance:5,target=focus]Lifebloom; [combat]Cyclone; [nostance:6, flyable] Swift Flight Form
/cancelform [stance:6]

Bear form
This will try to get aggro from all mobs around me by casting Challenging Roar.

Cat form
If I'm stealthed then I'll pounce and stun my target, if I'm already in combat it will cast Cower to lower my threat.

Tree of life form
If I'm pressing shift when clicking I will cast Regrowth on my focus target, if I'm pressing Alt then I will cast Rejuventaion of my focus target. If I just click it then I will cast Lifebloom on my focus target.

Caster form
If I'm in combat I will cast Cyclone on my target. If not in combat I will turn into Swift Flight Form and if in Swift Flight Form I will shift back to caster.

Large thumb button

/cast [stance:1]Frenzied Regeneration; [stance:3, stealth]Ravage; [stance:3]Shred; Nature's Swiftness;

Bear form
This will cast Frenzied Regeneration to heal.

Cat form
If I'm stealthed and behind my current target then I will Ravage it, if already in combat and behind current target then Shred. If I'm in front of my target then this button does nothing. I'm going to try adding something like "/startattack [stance:3, nostealth];" to see if I can get some utility from being in front of a target. Not sure about that last part yet.

Caster/Tree of life form
Cast Nature's Swiftness making next nature spell instant.

Small thumb button

/cast [stance:1]Growl;
[stance:3, combat]Ferocious Bite; [stance:5/nostance]Swiftmend; /cast [stance:3, nostealth]Prowl;
/cancelaura [stealth] Prowl;

Bear form
Cast Growl to get aggro.

Cat form
If in combat cast Ferocious Bite. If not in combat then Prowl, if already prowled then remove Prowl.

Caster/Tree of life form
Cast Swiftmend on current target.

§ button

/cast [stance:3]Maim; [stance:1]Lacerate; [mod:shift, target=player]Lifebloom; [mod:Alt, target=player]Innervate; [target=player]Rejuvenation;

Bear form
Lacerate the current target.

Cat form
Maim the current target.

Caster/Tree of life form
If I'm pressing Shift then cast Lifebloom on myself, if I'm pressing Alt then innervate myself else cast Rejuvenation on myself.

Combined macros

These are some macros that combine similar spells or buffs so that you can choose which one you want by left or right clicking it.
# Hibernate animal target with left click,
# soothe it with right click
/cast [button:2]Soothe Animal; Hibernate;

# Group buff with right click,
# single target buff with left click
/cast [button:2]Gift of the wild; Mark of the wild;

# Omen of clarity with right click, Thorns with left click
#showtooltip Thorns
/cast [button:2]Omen of clarity; Thorns;

Idol macros

These macros makes sure you equip the idols matching the spell cast.
#showtooltip Moonfire
/cast Moonfire;
/equip [noequipped:Idol of the Unseen Moon]Idol of the Unseen Moon;

#showtooltip Starfire
/cast Starfire;
/equip [noequipped:Ivory Idol of the Moongoddess]Ivory Idol of the Moongoddess;

I hope this helps a little bit. Merry Christmas to all of you!

Clever WoW 2.0 druid macros

I've toyed around with how to combine my different spells in my various druid forms as smart as possible. I like having one button, be it mouse or keyboard, perform context sensitive actions depending on my current form. Note that some of these are dependent on the restoration talent tree but feel free to adapt them to your own spec.

I call this one Aggrovate:
/cast [stance:1]Challenging Roar; [stance:3, stealth]Pounce; [stance:3]Cower; Innervate;

Explanation: If in Bear Form cast Challenging Roar to generate aggro, if stealthed in Cat Form cast Pounce to stun the enemy, if not stealthed but in Cat Form cast Cower to lose aggro and if in caster form cast Innervate to generate mana.

This would be the Backshredding Emergency button:
/cast [stance:1]Frenzied Regeneration; [stance:3, stealth]Ravage; [stance:3]Shred; Nature's Swiftness;

Explanation: If in Bear Form cast Frenzied Regeneration, if stealthed in Cat Form cast Ravage, if not stealthed but in Cat Form cast Shred and if in caster form cast Nature's Swiftness to make the next spell instant, usually a large Healing Touch.

This is my Prowling SwiftGrowl
/cast [stance:1]Growl; [stance:3, combat]Ferocious Bite;[stance:3]Prowl; Swiftmend;

Explanation: If in Bear Form cast Growl to taunt one target, if in combat in Cat Form then attack with Ferocious Bite, if in Cat Form but not combat cast stealth or lose stealth and if in caster form cast Swiftmend to consume a HoT.

WoW 2.0 Macros

I've found and read Neuro's Macro Guide for WoW 2.0 (v2).

That gave me some quick ideas which I'm going to try out later tonight when I'm home.

Druid

/cast [stealth]Ravage; [combat]Shred;
/cast [stealth]Pounce; [combat]Cower;
/cast [target=player]Rejuvenation;

/cast [harm]Hibernate;
/stopmacro [nocombat];
/s %t is sleeping! Do not disturb!

Rogue

/cast [nocombat]Stealth; [combat]Expose Armor
/cast [stealth]Cheap Shot; [combat]Feint;
/cast [stealth]Garrote; [combat]Rupture;
/cast [stealth]Ambush; [combat]Backstab;
/castsequence reset:20; Kidney Shot, Kick, Kick;

Worth mentioning is the nice "come and save the healer" macro that I've made up:

/helpme
/s I'm being attacked by %t!
